The Roles

Real people. Real story.

Lead Roles

ZANDER

Lead Role

Ages 12–16MaleAny Ethnicity

The heart of the film. Charming, grounded, and likeable without trying. Spends the night quietly wrestling with doing the right thing when no one is watching. Must roller skate or be willing to learn before shoot day. Strong instincts over technique — we want a real kid, not a polished performer.

MIA

Lead Role

Ages 12–16FemaleAny Ethnicity

Warm, observant, emotionally intelligent. She notices everything and says little. Cheers louder for others than herself. Her feelings are always visible but never announced. Must feel completely natural on camera — if it looks like acting, it's the wrong choice.

CHASE

Lead Role

Ages 12–16MaleAny Ethnicity

The antagonist with a real arc. Loud, arrogant, and desperate to be seen — but hurt underneath all of it. By the end of the film he has to earn a handshake and make the audience believe it. The actor must find the vulnerability behind the bravado without excusing the behavior.

Supporting — Youth

TRAVIS

Supporting — Youth

Ages 12–16MaleAny Ethnicity

Competitive, funny, and secretly the most generous kid in the room. Voluntarily loses a race so his best friend can win — and celebrates like they both won a championship. High energy throughout. Roller skating ability strongly preferred.

NATE

Supporting — Youth

Ages 12–16MaleAny Ethnicity

Slightly awkward, big glasses, completely loyal. Absorbs cruelty without fully breaking. Then wins the race and feels every bit of it. The underdog the audience roots for hardest. Must be able to carry genuine emotion in a moment with no dialogue.

MILES

Supporting — Youth

Ages 12–16MaleBlack

Goofy, impressionable, not mean-spirited at his core. Always a half step behind whatever Chase is doing. Natural comic timing matters more than dramatic range. Must be able to laugh convincingly on cue.

Adult Roles

BRODY

Adult Role

Ages 35–50MaleAny Ethnicity

Rink manager. Flannel vest, backwards cap. Warm authority without a hint of preachiness. The most important adult casting decision in the film. The office scenes require real emotional subtlety — he guides without lecturing.

OLIVIA

Adult Role

Ages 35–50FemaleAny Ethnicity

Zander's mom. Practical, loving, completely grounded. Two brief scenes that bookend the entire film. Sets up who Zander is before we even get inside. Must feel like a real mom, not a TV mom.

LIZ

Adult Role

Ages 28–40FemaleAny Ethnicity

Front desk manager at Skate City. Warm, organized, unflappable. One main scene with an anxious parent she has to talk down. Background presence throughout the night. Should feel like someone who genuinely loves this job and knows every kid's name.

OFFICER BEAR

Adult Role

Ages 30–50MaleAny Ethnicity

Off-duty police officer working the event. Calm, professional, minimal dialogue — three lines maximum. Presence and stillness matter far more than performance. When he walks toward Chase, the room should feel it without him doing anything dramatic.

DJ FIZZ

Adult Role

Ages 25–45MaleAny Ethnicity

The voice and energy of the entire night. Knows every kid by name and calls them out on the mic. Controls the mood of the rink. Must be able to actually work a crowd — this cannot be faked on camera. Real DJ or hype experience is a strong plus.

MOLLY

Adult Role

Ages 30–50FemaleAny Ethnicity

Concerned parent at drop-off. One scene at the front desk. Brief but can carry a little comedy — she is wound tight and Liz has to talk her down. Good comic timing and believable anxious energy.
